GCA Wins AIA Wisconsin Awards

Shechem won a 2024 AIA Wisconsin Honor Award, the highest distinction given to a project by AIA Wisconsin, indicating overall excellence. GCA enjoyed working closely with Hope Street and everyone involved in creating this community beacon. Margaret Cavenagh, one of the jury members for the awards, stated, “The pre-cast walls do a nice job framing the building and settling it into its context while the courtyard creates a transition from street to entry and becomes a gathering space. Together, the two moves enable Shechem to feel open, welcoming, and inviting—an important facet of a community center.” The building is compelling from a design standpoint, but the project also demonstrates that location should not define or limit what can be done with Architecture.

Our Urban Lofts project, recipient of a Merit award, is a shining example of the transformative power of architecture. This adaptive reuse project, a collaboration with Outside Architecture of Portland OR, breathed new life into two historic Milwaukee buildings, converting them into a vibrant mix of commercial and residential space. The project’s intensive masonry restoration and complete reconstruction of the multiple-floor structures, combined with an imaginative interior design, demonstrate our dedication to preserving history while also embracing the future.

We at GCA take pride in all our work, but there’s a special sense of honor when our projects receive industry recognition. It’s a validation of our team’s hard work, creativity, and dedication to pushing the boundaries of architectural design and execution.
