Station 1846 acts as a community hub for gathering and social events. Its founder had an established business that offers sightseeing tours of Milwaukee and was looking for a new home to both launch the tours from and to create a community amenity for those already within the neighborhood. The project involved converting a dilapidated automobile service garage into a dynamic and stylish venue with street appeal for visitors. GCA was involved very early in the process, helping the client with interior layouts, code and zoning approvals, and exterior design. The client brought on Design Theory 19 to help with the interior design and fixture selection. The adaptive reuse of this structure proves that a collaborative team guided by a shared vision can breathe new life into a building that was very easily overlooked. The exterior features a newly painted brick façade accented by glass overhead doors, black metal siding, and slivers of thermally treated wood. A revision to the exterior sidewalk allows for a generous patio space that is well-used in warmer months, creating a beacon of activity for those looking for something to do on an evening or weekend.
